Safe{Wallet} Gas Fees: FAQ

Last updated: June 14, 2026

What is gas, and how does Safe{Wallet} handle it?

Gas is the network's fee for processing a transaction onchain. With gas abstraction, Safe{Wallet} handles gas for you. Gas is paid directly from your Safe Account balance, so you no longer need native tokens in your signing wallet.

This removes the need to fund separate signing wallets with ETH or other native tokens, which cuts operational overhead. Signing wallets are for signing. Your Safe Account covers the rest.

Which networks support gas abstraction?

Gas abstraction is rolling out progressively on:

  • Ethereum

  • Base

  • BNB Chain

  • Arbitrum

Will I still need ETH or native tokens in my signing wallet?

No. As gas abstraction rolls out, transactions are relayed for you and gas is paid from your Safe Account balance. You no longer need to hold native tokens in your signing wallet.

Which tokens can I use to pay gas fees?

Gas is paid from a set of supported tokens held in your Safe Account. On each network this covers the native asset and major stablecoins:

Network

Supported gas tokens

Ethereum

ETH, USDC, USDT, DAI, PYUSD, WETH

Base

ETH, USDC, USDT, DAI, WETH

Arbitrum

ETH, USDC, USDT, DAI, PYUSD, WETH

BNB Chain

BNB, USDC, USDT

Token support may expand over time.

How do I choose which token to use for gas?

You choose the gas token at the point of the transaction, from the supported tokens in your Safe Account. Safe{Wallet} shows the network's native asset first (ETH, or BNB) followed by stablecoins such as USDC, USDT, and DAI.

Safe{Wallet} remembers your choice and applies it to future transactions. If the token you picked no longer covers gas, you can select another one.

Can I send my full token balance?

Yes. You can send the maximum balance of a token and pay gas in a different token from your Safe Account. If no other token can cover gas, the fee is taken from the token you are sending, when that token is supported for gas on the network.

Does gas abstraction apply when I use WalletConnect or Safe Apps?

Yes. Gas abstraction applies to transactions you execute in Safe{Wallet}, including those initiated through WalletConnect and Safe Apps. The transaction is executed by Safe{Wallet}, so gas is paid from your Safe Account balance.

Why is Safe{Wallet} changing how gas works?

Safe{Wallet} secures $60B+ in onchain assets. Gas abstraction simplifies the experience — no more failed transactions because a signing wallet ran out of native tokens. This model reflects Safe's core value: making secure transactions seamless.
