What Safenet checks and what the results mean

Last updated: October 9, 2026

What is Safenet

Safenet is a decentralized transaction-security network for Safe accounts. Independent checkers, called sentinels, check each transaction against a fixed set of rules before it executes. Safenet is governed by SafeDAO. Safe{Wallet} displays the result.

Each sentinel puts up a bond. Bonds are not slashed during the launch period, which runs until the end of 2026. Every result is public, so you can verify it yourself.

Safenet runs alongside the other checks in Safe Shield. Safe Shield is the panel that shows all security checks for a transaction. Safenet is one of them.

Who can use it

Safenet checks are included in the Business and Enterprise plans. There is no extra fee per transaction.

How it works

  1. Create and sign a transaction. The check starts when the first signer signs.

  2. Wait about a minute, or leave. You don't need to stay on the page. Sign now and come back to execute later.

  3. See the result. The result shows in Safe Shield and in your transaction queue.

Other signers see the same result. Their signature doesn't start a new check.

What it means

What to do

No issues found

Sentinels found that the transaction does not break any of the six rules below. Safenet does not check for other risks.

Review the transaction as usual before you sign or execute.

Risk detected

Sentinels found a risk. Safe Shield shows which check flagged it and why.

Read the reason before you sign or execute. See "If a transaction is flagged".

Check unavailable

Safenet couldn't complete the check.

You can still continue. Other Safe Shield checks still apply.

For now, a Safenet result is a warning. You can still execute a flagged transaction

What Safenet checks

Safenet follows six rules. A transaction is flagged if it breaks any of them.

Check

What Safenet looks for

Safe account settings change

This transaction changes signers, threshold, modules, guard, or fallback handler.

Unexpected delegate call

This transaction runs external code that can change your Safe account's setup.

Unknown recipient

Funds go to an address outside your usual recipients. This can be address poisoning.

Unknown spender

This transaction lets an unfamiliar address spend or move your assets.

Unlimited approval

This transaction approves an unlimited token amount.

Malicious threat detected

This transaction interacts with an address known to be malicious or compromised.

About settings changes

Safenet flags every change to your Safe Account settings. This includes adding a signer, removing a signer, and changing the threshold.

This is on purpose. Attackers often try to take control of an account by changing its settings. If you made the change yourself, you can continue.

Two changes are not flagged: removing a module and removing the fallback handler.

If a transaction is flagged

  • Stop before you sign or execute. Read the reason in Safe Shield.

  • Check the addresses. Compare each address with a trusted source, character by character. Don't copy addresses from your transaction history.

  • Ask the other signers. Confirm the transaction is expected.

  • Review the details. Select "View attestation" to see each sentinel's verdict and reason.

  • Reject the transaction if you're not sure.

Verify a result yourself

Every Safenet result is signed and public. Select "View attestation" in Safe Shield or in your transaction history. This opens the Safenet explorer, where you can see how each sentinel voted and why.

FAQ

Why does Safenet take longer than other checks?

Several independent sentinels review the transaction and agree on a result. That takes about a minute. Other checks come from a single provider, so they're faster.

Do I need to wait for the result before I sign?

No. Your signature starts the check. You can sign, leave, and come back to execute.

Does every signer trigger a new check?

No. One check runs per transaction. All signers see the same result.

What is the difference between Safenet and Safe Shield?

Safe Shield shows all security checks for a transaction. Safenet is one of those checks, run by independent sentinels.

Does Safenet cost extra?

Not on the Business and Enterprise plans. Safenet is included.
